Alghero, 14 Nov. (AKI) - At the first Italo-Algerian summit held on Wednesday in the Italian city of Alghero, Italy and Algeria agreed to build a gas pipeline linking the two countries via the western Italian region of Sardinia. The pipeline will supply Italy from 2012 with 8 billion tonnes of natural gas annually.
"Today's meeting has given rise to a longsighted energy policy that will guarantee Italy supplies for decades to come," said Italy's prime minister Romano Prodi (www.adnkronos.com - ww.alghero.tv).
